HypoAllergenic Formula
Formula HypoAllergenic
The proteins in hypoallergenic formulas have been pre-digested so that large milk proteins are broken down into smaller ones. This makes hypoallergenic infant formula less likely to cause allergic reactions.
What is HypoAllergenic formula for babies?
The term ‘hydrolyzed’ is often used to describe the process of breaking down proteins in hypoallergenic formulas. These formulas may be;
- Partially hydrolyzed formulas, in which the proteins are only partially broken down. Partially hydrolyzed formulas are not truly hypoallergenic.
- Extensively hydrolyzed formulas, in which the proteins are broken down into the smallest milk proteins.
- Amino acid-based formulas, in which the proteins are split into amino acids. If a baby cannot tolerate extensively hydrolyzed formula, amino acid-based formula is the next step.
- Soy-based formulas; however not considered as hypoallergenic formula, soy-based formulas are used as an alternative to cow’s milk. Typically, it is recommended to avoid soy milk formulas as babies who are allergic to cow’s milk often are also allergic to soy proteins.
- Goat milk formulas; goat milk naturally contains smaller proteins and can be a safe option to try when your baby is sensitive to cow’s milk.
According to the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), a hypoallergenic baby formula should be;
- Tolerated by at least 90% of infants with allergies
- Studied in infants having a cow’s milk allergy
- Studied in scientific clinical trial
When does my baby need HypoAllergenic formula?
Some babies are born with sensitivity or intolerance to milk protein and have difficulty processing formula milk and sometimes even breast milk. For those infants who are formula-fed, either as a supplement to breastfeeding or exclusively during their infancy, it is common practice for pediatricians to change the formula when symptoms of intolerance occur. A hypoallergenic (HA) baby formula is typically recommended by pediatricians for babies showing signs of a milk protein allergy, including vomiting, diarrhea, eczema, extreme irritability or colic, and wheezing. However, thankfully, the presence of true milk protein allergy is only 2-3%.
HiPP HypoAllergenic formula
The Hypoallergenic line from baby formula brand HiPP is specially developed for babies prone to allergies. HiPP uses 100% whey protein hydrolysate (86-87% broken down) for their HA infant formulas and uses lactose as the primary carbohydrate. HiPP HypoAllergenic formula also contains prebiotic (GOS) fibers and probiotic cultures, which nourish and strengthen the gut and immune system. GOS can help your little one to thrive. The prebiotics and probiotics also help to keep stools soft and comfortable. Probiotics are an important addition to the diet of anyone suffering from a health condition. These two additions in your baby's formula will help balance and regulate the digestive function. HiPP’s HA formulas come in three different stages;
HiPP HypoAllergenic formula stage PRE
HiPP Hypoallergenic Stage Pre is designed for little ones from birth to 3 months who show symptoms of an allergy to cow’s milk. It’s made from the same organic cow’s milk as all regular HiPP formulas, but with the proteins broken down so your baby’s immune system can’t react to them. That means all the same nutritional goodness as other organic formulas, without the risk of allergic reactions.
HiPP HypoAllergenic formula stage 1
The unique HiPP HA 1 Combiotic® is our latest generation HA formula and is designed for babies from birth to six months. It contains a highly broken down (hydrolyzed) protein and a unique combination of other valuable ingredients for sensitive tummies.
HiPP HypoAllergenic formula stage 2
Made in Germany using milk from sustainable organic farms, HiPP Hypoallergenic formula stage 2 is designed for babies from 6 to 12 months who show symptoms of an allergy to cow’s milk. They’ll get exactly the same perfect nutritional balance as other HiPP formulas.
Beste HypoAllergenic Formula?
We will always advise you to consult your pediatrician on this matter. One formula might work better for your baby than the other. Therefore, it is impossible to tell what the best hypoallergenic formula is. We have adopted HiPP’s hypoallergenic (HA) formula in our range of products since HiPP formulas are organic and enriched with the essential fatty acids DHA and ARA in an optimally balanced ratio and important vitamins and minerals to support your baby’s growth and development.
